IABC Houston September Luncheon: The Intersection of Media Relations & Social Media, From the Media’s Perspective.

As an IABC Houston member, this meeting was on my radar. . That said, I never RSVP, due to the nature of my business and not wanting to disappoint clients , nor incur revenue loss, etc. Today,  I was able to attend this luncheon and got to meet some new and old friends. I sat a table near the front with former IABC Prez Mary Francis Hardin, Brookwoods Group . . . Trish Cunningham, and Vargo Williams, and new friend Madeline Gregory of St Catherine Montessori and Karen Abercrombie of ION Geophysical Corporation.  Karen and I sat next to each other and discovered that we knew many people in the “Biz” and had acquaintances from Ogilvy and Mather & BMC software.  As they say “Back in the day”.

The food was fabulous and I got the vegetarian option along with the signature Brennan’s ’Bread Pudding with coffee.  Yum!

The Panel presentation was top notch and Chris Jones, Senior VP with Pierpont Communications set up and did a good job of moderating the panel.   The panel included:

  • •Jose Jimenez, Managing News Editor, Houston Public Media
  • •Katy Stewart, Social Engagement Editor, Houston Business Journal
  • •Nina Rach, Editor-in-Chief, Offshore Engineer
  • •Dwight Silverman, Technology Blogger & Social Media Manager, Houston Chronicle

The information they shared was so fascinating that I didn’t have time to check my email. No .. I’m not gonna share . . . you should have been there! I did however make time to take a few images for my blogging use as well to provide to IABC Houston.   I used my unobtrusive, diminutive Sony NEX 7 digital camera to capture some action shots and a very nice group shot of the panel along with IABC President. . Suzy Hargrove.

A very pleasant surprise and bonus was running in my pal Danelia Argueta, MBA. She is enjoying her new position as Director of Marketing and Business Development at Connexion Research and brought her boss, Maricel Dominguez-Watson to the luncheon.

So . . .in closing . . . thank you IABC Houston for providing such a nice environment with fabulous food  and  world class panel of experts ..  that provided relevant, timely information . . .a good time was had by all . . esp me
